Liberal Studies (General Studies Option) Bachelor of Arts
Bachelor’s Degree: There are two options for students who choose to earn a BA in Liberal Studies.
Honors Option: Honors students must adhere to the requirements of the Honors College and take fifteen (15) credit honors of Honors core curriculum for their free electives.
The General Studies option is an interdisciplinary degree catered to the students' interest. In lieu of the major/minor required by traditional degree programs, the student can curate a degree focused on one of these broad areas of concentration: arts, humanities, social and behavioral science, natural science, business, education, technology, health, or professional studies.
The student declaring this major should go to the Dean of Whitney Young Honors Collegium to be assigned an advisor who will work with the student to define the area of concentration and the appropriate advised electives. Minimum Academic Requirements:
▪ Grade-point average of at least 2.0 overall.
▪ Grade of “C” or better in all major courses and advised elective courses
▪ 31/32 semester-credit hours of the General Education Core
▪ 42 semester-credit hours of concentration. Courses must be in the upper level 300-400 and student must earn a "C" or higher.
▪ 15 semester-credit hours of advised electives
▪ 10 semester-credit hours of free electives
▪ 120 total college-level undergraduate semester hours
